Return to Eureka area

Revisted the Eureka SD area last weekend. Our first trip was really tough with almost zero crops down. This trip was the complete opposite. Of course all the crops were down and we saw well over a thousand birds. We did have a frustratingly hard time catching up with them but managed 27 birds for five of us in three days. Oh we had our chances to get many more but the birds beat the pellets. All though it was really cool to see that many birds I'm not sure I will return that late in the season again. They only had around six inches of snow but the winds drifted over the minimum maintenance roads and cut us off from some of our more productive spots.

Good to hear you got some birds. That weather wasn't exactly warm. I only saw one other group out and about. Might have been you? Snow was drifted pretty good on some roads but most of the ag fields seemed wide open for the birds to feed. Every rooster we shot was plump full of corn probably why they held and didn't fly when we were 200 yards away like the rest.

We only saw one other group and that was at the caf? in town. They had a pull behind dog trailer. Not one other hunter at any public spots.
