Republic and Jewell counties

Does anyone here hunt Republic and Jewell counties? I'm sure someone does and I'm not asking for specific information. A friend of mine moved up there at the end of season and he's making some new contacts. I'm sure I'll get to spend some time hunting there. I've never hunted those counties, but every area has something unique about it (terrain, cover, etc.).

i like it i just stay with the milo fields i hunt beloit and jewel county is just north of there lots of pheasants like i have said before i just dont see that many quail

We go to Mankato every year and have a blast, we have quite a few local contacts since my dads been goin for 35 years so we pretty much hunt the spectrum: milo, corn, crp I would agree with Onlya Pointer almost every year about there being quite a few pheasants and few quail, but last year we saw quite a few quail up around Mankato!

I appreciate your input guys.

Only a pointer,

Surely you hunt some cover too? Should I expect valleys, waterways, or what? Many CRP field, draws, or hedge rows?

big cover

the crp is huge there, there are some waterways but even on private i havent seen a bird in there (to smart) i just like the grain fields i do good inj them heck i learned on here to hunt cut corn fields. But i only hunt with two or three guys so the big crp may not scare you like it does me

I'll be in a small group most of the time as well. I appreciate your input very much. We do pretty well in the crop fields 1hr south and a little east of there. We don't do very well in the waterways or in the big CRP. Sounds like Jewell county will be much like Ottawa.

Good Area to Hunt

If you have any experiences with the area and wouldn't mind sharing, I would sure appreciate it. Feel free to send a pm if you don't want to talk about it on the public forum.

Thanks,

Chad

Those are good counties to hunt. Not much walk-in but if your friend is getting permissions, no problem.

Jewell Co. has More Walk-In

brit there is a ton of walk in there more than i could hunt in a weeks time like i said though the walk inj is mainly huge crp to big for me!

I did not realize how much walk-in acreage is now open Jewell Co. Thanks for correcting my mistake. I am more familiar with Republic Co. where I hunt some family land. There's not so much walk-in acreage in Republic Co.
