... Additional record high temperatures set Thursday...

In western Colorado,

At Crested Butte, the high temperature Thursday was 46 degrees. This
set a new record high for January 19, breaking the previous record
of 41, set in 1971.

Hoping for that snow too hit hard this weekend, as I have a elk tag that has been waiting on snow to push those critters lower so I can fill the freezer!!!!

I hope you get both your wishes! I ran southern Colorado last weekend and no snow in the passes.

Too Warm?

If you're worried about global warming, I invite you up to Alaska. Currently as I type at my house, it's clear and 3 degrees with about four feet of snow on the ground. About 70 miles up the road in Kenai its -15, and still further up the road in Bettles it's -38 with a -57 wind chill. Enjoy your balmy Colorado day.

But, my question is---"Is it going to be a good halibut season come summer?"

I sure hope so. I grilled up some Halibut cheeks last week that were to die for. We've got a halibut hole that's in 120 feet of water where the fish start hitting your bait before it hits the bottom. Getting Halibut has never been a problem. It's been so cold for so loooong that right now it feels like summer will never come.

Would like to get to Homer for some big 'buts' one day. Have only fished SE Alaska and never had anything over 185 come on the boat while I was there.

It's 9 pm at 5300 ft in the Black Hills of SD--21 Jan and it's RAINING--a crazy winter for sure.:D

BlueBijou- sister and husband are at the Condo at the ski slopes- Crested Butte-report is there isn't much in the way of snow- quite a few runs aren't open

I'm going to meet my brother there sometime between Feb 4-14th- I'm sort of waiting in hopes of catching some serious snow- brother from Alaska is thinking of joining us

sure do hope the weather takes a turn

I was stationed at Elmendorf AFB from 1991 to 1994. Now I am a Texan, born and raised. Joined the Air Force and soon after got married and we headed north to Alaska. Took the ferry from Bellingham, WA stops in the Panhandle of AK and then to Haines. This was November 1991 ....drove the ALCAN from Haines Junction to Anchorage. Saw some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen, temps as low as -40deg. In some places, looked like a sea of white.

While there I fished for Kings, silvers, reds and halibut. Shot ptarmigan, ducks, geese, and moose. I do miss the fishing.

Our first winter there (Nov 1991) it snowed over 200inches in Anchorage. I had shovel the roof of my house :confused:....

The wife missed her mom and all so sadly we left driving down the ALCAN in November 1994. I loved my time up there.

Fresh, fried halibut in beer batter:10sign::coolpics::cheers:

Just an update for you warm weather hunters. -6 at the house, Seventy miles up the road its -27, Bettles it's -58 (low of -60 this morning). Anchorage is going to set an all time record for the coldest January on record. Average temp this month is 2.7 degrees. The good news....in a month I'm heading to Mexico for two weeks of sun, sand and cerveza.
