Rain and Drought

Got our first rain of the year, .60. Much needed as we are now in D1 on the drought monitor. Need more rain and lots of it to avoid emergency grazing and haying this summer. It's been dry and I am seeing a lot fencing going up around CRP. Ranchers and farmers are licking their chops to run cattle on it.

We need these storms to hit this week, right on the edge of loosing everything we gained last year!

IIRC, the original 1985 farm bill that established CRP did not allow haying or grazing. That was undoubtedly better for the birds.

As CRP evolved it seems there are a lot of reasons/conditions that allow haying/grazing and that's almost certainly not good for the birds or those of us that seek places to hunt those birds.
