Quail vs. Pheasant Habitat

Been lurking for a while and am looking to make a possible trip to KS in either Dec. or Jan. Looking at the North Central area. We went last year and found a couple of covey's a day but, they never seemed to be in the same cover type. What do you look for when it comes to quail cover vs. pheasant cover? We'd like to hunt both but, I would really like to get into some quail.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I find some coveys of quail in areas where there are pheasants, but I usually find most of them in some woody cover, like shrubs. If you want to slant the odds in your favor for quail over pheasants, then the plum thickets in the sandhills are prime.

This is prime quail habitat-
