Pup's FIRST Hunt

I just had to toss this out there. I had been very remiss in training my dog this past spring/summer, just too much work and too little time and money. I wasn't doing much hunting after the loss of my 12 year hunting partner and hadn't planned on another dog, much less training for birds.

Long story short....while not hand signal trained, and not quite got the hang of back and forth, this guy got out there worked his tail off. I spent a large portion of the day with my jaw dropped...amazed at what he was doing. He spent 3 solid hours pounding chest high brush, ungainly but accurate points and pushed three birds to the gun.

Needless to say, I am one happy camper. It was an unbelievable first outing and I still have a stupid grin on my face. Proud papa for sure and out again tommorow. He is a yellow lab, wiemeraner (?) and pit bull mix. Sorry for rambling but this was just awesome.

Wow, what a combo.....congrats, I don't think I ever heard a lab, weim, pit bull mix as a hunting dog...whatever works I say.

I know how it feels to lose your hunting partner. I have lost two labs in the past 5yrs. My first yellow lab, 13yrs old and my chocolate female who was 16 yrs old. I know have a 12yr old yellow lab (the 13yr olds son), 6yr old chocolate female and I am getting a yellow lab female on New Years eve and hopefully I will be hunting with her next year.

Again, congrats....it is a pretty good feeling,

Greg

Green Dog

I had to retire my Springer 4 years ago due to joint issues and just lost interest in hunting without my girl. Had to put her down a couple months ago and decided to get another dog. I found a 4 yr old Brittany rescue dog. He has outstanding breeding, a great nose and has the most beautifull point you ever saw. With the weather we have had, I haven't been able to get him into birds. He's pointing mice! I am praying for snow so I can show him what that nose needs to be looking for. It "will" happen and I share your zeel for seeing a dog come along. Good job.
