I was able to sneakout for a few hours on Wednesday afternoon.
I was hunting a big block of CRP. With the South wind we hunted down the North side where it met a ripped corn field. I always seem to have the best luck in the afternoons close to food.
The first three points were hens. Then after a little chase Belle finally pinned down the first rooster which held good after he got a little run first.
The next point was another rooster after the shot 12 birds got up, they confused Belle and I didn't make a perfect shot on this bird. I brought her back to heel, lined her up and a few minutes later rooster number 2 was in the vest.
We had a few wild flushing hens then came to some sheet water and she pointed on a high spot in the middle of it. Rooster number 3 was one of 3 birds this year that I have killed that wasn't this years bird. Usually I am about 50/50 on young birds.
Good luck to everyone this weekend, between family get togethers and work that may be the only time I get out....
