Any suggestions for Prairie Chickens in Graham County? I'll be out there in a few weeks and wanted to try and augment the pheasant hunt with some Chickens.
There are chickens in Graham Co. We don't hunt them but encounter them while pheasant hunting. I have no idea as to what part of Graham Co., if any, has better chicken numbers. Good luck.
I saw well over 100 chickens while hunting in Osborne county but I didn't see any the two days I was in Graham county. I know they have them in Graham because we saw a big flock or two last year but I didn't run into them this year. It is my understanding that you need to blind hunt them at this time of year but I am no expert on that subject. I just never get close enough to them unless I see them coming in from a mile away and kneel down hoping they might fly over.
Find a field they are feeding in and watch where they fly from. Then set up either where they fly over at or where they are landing in the field. Nothing like having a group of 100 fly right in on top of you. But the only bad thing about them is that they taste horrible. Good luck.

It is fun having them come in over top of you. And yes, they taste pretty bad.
We have a field out in the flint hills we hunt and they've always flown into this field and last year while we were walking to the spot they fly over we had a doe come running about 200 yards away right to us at about 20 yards and we were in orange camo in the middle of a cut milo field. It was probably one of the most amazing things that has happened to us. Also I got my first chicken and should have had another one but I choked. I was just glad I got one. Then the next night we went to the same spot and my dad had 100 fly right over him in the wind and he didn't hit a single one and the last one in the group flys by me at about 60 yards and I drill him right in the head. So it's a ton of fun to have them all come right to you. We may try setting up a hay bale blind where they usually land and try to shoot them as they land which would be cool. But I just want to get a male so I can get him mounted with the sacks all puffed out.
