I am totally stoked.....My 11yrd old son will be hunting (actually shooting a 20gauge) with me this year on opening weekend.
Last year I took him and he had his BB gun and I put an orange vest and hat on him and let him trail along while we walked or blocked. I didn't feel he was ready (he was 10yrs old) and had not taken hunters education yet. He is now in the 6th grade, his reading level and comprehension is better and I feel he is just a little bit more mature were he is ready.
Last year when I took him, I talked to him alot about the rules and regulations, the do's and don'ts, and just tried to mentor him. Like my Papa did to me.
So he takes his hunters education this Friday and Saturday. We are going to go out and shoot some clay birds the weekend of Halloween.
Next year I am going to take him out on youth day for waterfowl and also upland.
