Out in the rain...

today at public grounds. HARD hunting going out, much harder coming back. It alternated between misting and light rain for the two hours out.

Brought home two birds which Mick trailed into the woods surrounding the property. I dropped the first one in the woods and watched the second flush back out to the wheat fields and high grasses.

It sure didn't land and squat, finally moved it about 100 yards uphill and behind us 20 minutes later.

You guys ever have days when it is more like work than sport?

Today's gun: NEF Partner, 20ga single, mod, with 2 3/4in 5s.

Last Saturday I was soaked to the bone and hunted for 4 hours in the rain. Walked for miles and only saw 1 hen until I was about 100 yards from the truck and the dog finally pinned down a rooster. Had a 23 inch tail and 5/8 inch spurs.

Up to that point I was questioning my sanity as to why I was out there just getting drenched. After downing that rooster I was ready to go another 4 hours but had to head home and was glad I put up with the weather.

It's nice to see your persistence paid as well!
