I took the dogs out for a run towards sunset today. We had our first significant snowfall on Sat. I drove roughly 14 miles of gravel roads out and back. I had seen no pheasants or signs of pheasant tracks even going by 300 acres of CRP. I decided I really wanted to see a pheasant I made a detour to a farm where you could usually see some birds. Sure enough I saw three roosters and a hen. Most hunters would just drive by this place and not think twice about it. It looks the way most Iowa farms looked in the 60's or 70's. It has an old grove, creeks with some willows and bordering grass, hay ground, and crop ground. There is always pheasants on that property even though they experience the same winters and predator factors that everyone else in the county experiences. The only difference is he's an organic farmer.
