So after pheasant hunting on opening day for the first ever and in Colorado. I was actually quite suprised. There were birds and we got some shooting in. Notice I said shooting and not killing. Between my son, a friend and his son we should have had our limit. However that's why they call it hunting and not killing. We hunted out by Burlington and we got into some cockbirds in the first field we hunted.
I was actually so suprised by the number of birds I saw (I had to pinch myself because I was in Colorado and not some hunting preserve), that my shooting suffered. And if it wasn't for the poor shooting, I would have limited out.
I took my 11yr old son and it was his first pheasant hunt. He had a good time. He got some shots. Actually, the first flush was a rooster that flew from my right to left. My son was on my lefthand side on the edge of the field.
I told him where his field of fire was, he knew and was ready. I told him what to do. So the bird flushes, and I shoot and miss. The bird flys right in front of him and he doesn't shoot. I asked him why he didn't shoot and he said because he thought I would shoot and kill it. I said well I missed and you are supposed to be the back up....he said he didn't think I would miss
Kids say the dardest things....
We are going to Kansas this weekend and hopefully he will get his first cockbird....I just love this time of the year!!!:10sign:
