Northern Colorado Training Groups

I moved to CO about 3 years ago from ND. I just recently purchased a EP and was looking for groups of guys/gals that enjoy training pointing dogs that wouldn't mind another member. I'm curious what groups there are in Northern Colorado. I know NSTRA and NAVHDA have local chapters, but are there any others? Or, are these the only chapters/groups in the area?

This would be my first pointer to work with. He's a fully trained/finished dog, but I enjoy working dogs and would like to get with a group to learn the pointing breed and to continue working/maintaining/improving the dog.

Thanks

It is a little slow on here right now, give it a little time and someone will jump in..

There are a lot of training opportunities/groups out there.

My wife and I are in three different clubs. Mile High Weimaraner Club, Vizsla Club of Colorado and Rocky Mountain Sporting Dog Club.

The MHWC and the VCC have some training events for bird intro, but most of the advanced work is done in informal training sessions, with like minded members. Both of these clubs host AKC hunt tests, usually in a "double double" format in the fall and spring. Both clubs have a good amount of overlapping membership.

The Rocky Mountain Sporting Dog Club puts on field events almost monthly during fall, winter and spring and has two training fields in Strasburg, CO, which are available for training all year ... provided that the fields aren't flooded, beat down by hail, or under 4ft of snow. The club championship event is being held this weekend on Saturday, it might be a good opportunity to have a look at what they do. RMTSDC divisions: Singles - open, women's novice, youth. Doubles - open, women's, youth. The doubles events roughly follow the NSTRA format.

A few other people I know, informally gather over the summer to do NAVHDA work at Cobb Lake almost every weekend.

Also, there is the Colorado Gun Dog Association.

PS ... I keep my toes in different clubs so that if one or two clubs go off of the deep end, which dog clubs are prone to do, I spend more time with the club with the least number of "issues". :D
