Nice little afternoon hunt

Hunted a well known public area yesterday afternoon. Just me and the labs. Put up 3-4 Roosters and maybe the same amount of hens most in one field. Have never seen that many birds in one trip to this place. Don't get me wrong we worked hard, very hard for them and I'm not going to be headed back there anytime soon but there is hope for the place I think.

Headed out to the Beloit area this morning with the labs to see what kind of trouble they can stir up.

I'm getting ready to head down south....kinda sad but haven't been out since the opener. Gotta be back in town at 3 or I'd chase you up there.

We went out today after the Snowpacalypse of '15. The weather was perfect and five of us ended up bagging five roosters and two quail. Had a great time with great folks and good dog work.

That half inch of snow..was something else. I do think if we would have had four inches, we could have shot more.

The only downer was finding out two of our spots had been decimated by the flood waters from a couple of weeks ago. Oh well, next year for those spots.

Jetmore first ever Pheasant Hunt.

I have never been on a pheasant hunt until this week. I have hunted pheasants in preserves and once got drawn for a 6 hour hunt in Indiana. But thats it. Iam 59!

My PP and I hunted 9 fields and found birds in three. Ratio of Roosters to Hens was about 4 to 10 maybe a little higher. Total birds were 50+. Many flushed to far out due to my puppy getting on a bunch and running after them.

I have to confess my shooting sucks. I killed 2 but should have killed 6. They fly a lot faster than pen raised birds! We also put up a covey of quail and a local I talked to said his dad has quail coming into his yard. First time ever.

If next year brings rain this is going to be a great spot. I have to say the fields that had no birds in them was because they had been grazed or hayed in the last year. I got better at identifying which fields to hunt but it took a couple of days.

Glad you had a good trip and when the bird numbers rebound, you will not have to worry too much about missing a few shots because there will be another opportunity shortly..
