I just joined the forum and I have been reintroduced to quail hunting this winter after many years. I used to quail hunt in my youth with my father and this year I was invited to a quail hunt and I am now hooked . Greetings from Eastern North Carolina.

Greetings to you and welcome to the forum. Be sure to share your hunting stories and photos. Tell us about your local hunting. Sea ducks?

Im judging by the name your located in Beaufort? I was there Easter Weekend and was looking at some of the landscape thinking to my self.."that has got to hold some birds". I am getting married in Havelock NC in June.

Welcome aboard

Thanks for the welcome! I am still scouting around Eastern North Carolina for Bobwhites. No-till farming and other practices have hurt the quail populations.
The Hunt I went on they released birds. Beaufort County.

The Hunt I went on was in Alabama on a private farm. It was a far and above what I was expecting. First Class Hunt and I just hope I am invited again.

Welcome Beaufort. I'm about 2.5 hours south of you in Calabash. I fish out of Beaufort several times a year with a friend from New Bern.

We also travel to Kansas once every few years to pheasant and quail hunt. It is always a great trip.

Welcome Beaufort
Great to see another fellow North Carolinian here on the site! I am quite a drive away up here in Asheville. Rarely see any quail up here anymore and the Grouse are tough to chase but still fun to get out. I head to the great state of Kansas every year for wild pheasant and quail; it is my upland bird delight. This year we may make the pilgrimage to South Dakota for my first hunt up there; if all the stars align we will be doing it at the end of October.
Take care,
Wolf

Beaufort,
Have you heard about the wild pheasant population out on the Outer Banks? Google it and I think it is around the Core Banks area. Quite the drive for me but it sounds like you might be quite a bit closer. My guess is that a season after hard hitting hurricanes might be tougher but they are all wild birds that originated from a old hunt club releasing birds back in the early 30's or 40's.
Take care,
Wolf

Yes I have heard of the outer banks pheasants in the past. My father hunted them in the early 1950's. Development out there has made hunting almost impossible.

I believe you have to head to the Core Banks and I think you will need a boat to get to the spots where there are birds. The boat thing makes it harder to build:D

My father used to hunt on Shackeford Banks for Pheasants. I think North Carolina Wildlife Magazine has featured stories about outer banks pheasants in years past. Thank you for bringing up this subject on the OB pheasants I had forgotern about these birds being close by.

I've seen pheasants in the dunes on Cape Hatteras National Seashore while on fishing trips. That would be a tough life.
