New here, glad to find this place!
Took first trip of the year last weekend out to the Hill City area. Hunted Thurs-Sat. first couple of days hunted with a group of 5. Saw a lot of birds but they were getting up 100+ yards ahead, will very jumpy and wild. Sat we had 15 guys which I hoped would help being able to block etc. Did not see near as many birds on Sat. Overall it seemed the number of birds was down from last year.
Was a great trip however in the success my GSP had in his first real hunt. He is not quite a year and half old; I could not be happier with his first hunt! There were 9 dogs out on Sat. and 6 of them were experienced dogs, my GSP was the only dog to point and flush! He pointed and flushed 4 times and one rooster was less than 5 secs after a yellow lab worked the same area! He pointed and flushed it when the lab didn't pick up on it at all! Very proud of him, and hope to get him in some more birds soon!
