Here is my long time hunting buddies boy with his bird dog , he does a great job of socializing his puppy .



Here is his dog with his dad working it on pen raised quail .



These should be a nice line of dogs with a lot of natural ability .




Got the ole Johnny house stocked with birds , can't make a bird dog with out birds / seams like this tool helps shorten the learning curb quite a bit .

To the Shorthair fans out there , what has ben the soonest you hunted and shot birds over a pup ?

When I went and got my pup at 12 weeks old, she had already had birds shot over her. Matter of fact, she went hunting and ran with the trainers other dogs that same morning.
 
What age to shoot over your dog...?

Introduce the dog to the gun? Or shooting birds over the dog? Big difference!
 
The youngest shorthair I've shot birds over was 12 weeks. This was after introduction to the gun and it was on a dove hunt. She had planted birds shot over her before this and was already retrieving frozen pigeons we would launch and use a .410 to get her used to the shot. She ended up being the best shorthair I've trained so far which makes me a believer in getting pups an early start.
