ND Pheasants down ...

ND down more than SD.

North Dakotaâ??s roadside pheasant survey conducted in late July and August revealed the lowest bird count in more than five years, and similar to 2002 when 500,000 roosters were harvested.

Winter mortality due to unusually harsh weather and lower production this summer because of a cool, wet spring kept the number of young birds down and made for lower recruitment of young into the fall population, according to Stan Kohn, upland game management supervisor for the state Game and Fish Department.

Total pheasants were down 50 percent statewide from last year, brood observations were down 46 percent, and average brood size was down 13 percent. The final summary is the result of 265 runs made along 95 brood routes across North Dakota.

Does anyone know where a more detailed version of the North Dakota Pheasant Survey can be found? South Dakota posts the study itself, in PDF form, on its game and fish site, but I can't find a link to North Dakota's. Thanks.

ND Game and Fish just provides the general press release ... Information provided by quadrant.

ND G&F does NOT provide detailed information by county like IA, MN, SD do.

Have tried to get more detailed from NDG&F in the past and have been unsuccessful.

The information SD puts out is amazing!

NDG&F does not want to draw attention to a specific town or county of ND. They have adhered to the "no internet / no phone call" scouting for a long time now.

Late harvest and a decent late hatch will likely make ND better as the season goes along ... especially where the pheasant belt overlaps corn or sunflower country.
