Nails rubbing on toes?

Has anyone else had this issue.. seems like he broke a nail at one time and now it grows a bit funky and constantly rubs against his toe… he has a couple spots like this on his feet. Despite some licking when we’re done, it doesn’t slow him down.

I’ve tried shaping the nail so it’s smooth on the side, but it doesn’t seem to matter much.

I've seen it on my lab's feet when done hunting hard cover.... more on the front feet than the rear.
I assume(d) it was from the cover, never gave it a thought that it was nail related.
I usually just put some ointment on it and wrap overnight so he can't lick, cause that will only irritate it more. Usually in the morning it's scabbed over enough, I then put a heavy coat of liquid bandage on.
I have not seen that when I boot my dog's feet, so that is what leaves me to believe it's been cover related for my dog.

I've seen sores like that here and there in years past, but Honey has been getting them every hunt this year, presumably due to the dry conditions, hence more abrasive plants. We hunted with a German shorthaired pointer this last weekend, and she was getting them too. I'm guessing dogs that cover more ground are going to get more of the sores, and more often, than close working flushers. I am hoping snow will soften the cover a bit and the last couple months of hunting will be better than the first couple. But that assumes we get snow.

I've been using "Vetericyn Plus All Animal Wound Care Hydrogel Spray" on her feet this year to aid in healing the wounds and to prevent infection.
