As outdoorsmen and women you will appreciate the story of my Christmas gift I received this year.
My brother in law and mom went together and purchased me an older used 6 hp outboard for use on my duck hunting slough boat. Each morning we go up the river in a big boat and then have to travel about a mile through the flooded timber in a slough to our duck hole and these small motors fit the bill. They knew I needed a motor so my brother in law found it and they split the cost.
Now the rest of the story. We leave our boats/motors in the slough near the river and the week after Thanksgiving my slough motor, as well as some others parked close by, came up missing. I reported the theft to the local authorities at the time. When my brother in law brought the motor in on Christmas Eve at my parent's house I told him it looked familiar. We carried it into the garage and sat it down and the cover popped off, something mine did as well. It did have camo tape on the cover that mine did not have. We went home and I got the motor out and checked the numbers and sure enough, it was my motor that had been stolen.
The story is a couple of high school kids took two motors to a local guy that does motor work. The kids had said it came from their grandfather's shed. The boys said they needed both motors repaired because they were not running properly. The guy fixed both motors and when the boys found out the cost they realized they could not pay and left the smaller motor with him. My brother in law knows the repair guy, who is a family friend, and ran into him and told him my story and asked him if he had any motors. He said he had a 6 hp that he had repaired for some kids but had kept because they used it to pay for fixing the other motor. My brother in law bought the motor at that time and then it ended up back with me. The local authorities are now investigating as the second motor appears to belong one of the guys on our slough as well.
I told someone I would gladly pay to get my motor back, but did not expect it as a Christmas gift.
