muzzleloading shotguns

I guess I didn't have enough headaches.

I picked up an older Navy Arms Italian imported percussion 12 guage, finish shot, mechanics and bore good.

The only data I can find is the old "equal volume powder/shot" rule. Except I want to use up some pyrodex and then use the same 777 I keep for the rifles. I seem to remember a neighbor years ago using a regular old plastic wad also.

Seems like an amazing lack of info out there for it. Any ideas/data/rules for the old thing?

I have a bunch of data on loads, I'm moving right now but if I can find them I let you know. I used the old adjustable shot dipper--same setting for powder and shot--std 12 ga was 1 1/4 oz shot and 90 gr black powder--I think. I've used both the fiber wads and plastic ones--plastic is easier for hunting.

I'll try and find the data for you, have fun with the old smokepole I know I sure did. :)

Equal volumes will work. But for more recommended charges, go to the Muzzle Loader Forum. You will get lots of help there. Keep in mind that 777 is about 10 grains hotter than Pyrodex. Meaning 50 grains of 777 will be the same as 60 grains of Pyrodex.

I would also cut four long slits in your over powder wad. This will cause it to spin off or break up instead of staying in front of your shot and blowing a hold in the center of the pattern.

Enjoy!

Lock and Load! :D
