All,

I am looking for a place in the mountains, preferably less than 2 hours from Westminster/Broomfield where I can go for the day and let me dog swim without anyone hassling me. Please let me know if anything comes to mind. Thanks.

With the size of Lake Dillon, I'd say you could get up there and have a ton of fun without bugging much of anyone. There's sure to be some well traveled spots, but I think you could find some great areas that are less than traveled and let your pup run free and get some crazy swim action in.

you have to be careful at Lake Dillon, it is owned by denver water and they are strict about activities on the lake. For instance people are not allowed to swim in the lake at all. I do believe they don't mind dogs swimming in the lake, you could always call the Frisco marina I am sure they would know the answer.

I took my gsp Cooper to Estes park a few weekends ago, right as you come into town on 36 there is a big lake on the left side of the road you will see a nice fenced in dog park that is open to the public and has a gate that allows access to the lake. Cooper swam and ran for like 2 hours before I finally made him leave. Gsphunter23 definitely check out the Estes park dog park it was a good time.

Isn't it interesting, fishing? Cool. Boats? Really cool. Swimming? Don't you dare!

I've seen folks out there with dogs before, so you're right on to say give a call up there.

I, too, have been searching for a good dog swiming place around Denver. There are not many! Every body of water I have found is either private or dogs are not allowed off-leash.

For some places around Denver ... not in the mountains ...
Union Reservoir in Longmont.
Chatfield Reservoir has ~70 acres of off leash area with ponds.

There are two nearby State Wildlife Areas for dog training ... Cobb Lake SWA near Wellington, and Banner Lakes near Hudson. Banner is a bit more restrictive. IMHO Cobb has fewer bugs.

In the mountains we have gone to Salida, and our Weim, along with half the towns dogs were in the Arkansas River in the middle of town.

Also, we occasionally take the dogs for a splash in Boulder Creek(??) between Rollinsville and the Moffat Tunnel.

Is Grand Lake open to dogs, or are there areas where someone could go that are remote enough so that no one would mind?

Lonetree between Longmont & Loveland, and Windsor lake also have dog training areas on the lakes.
