Lower Brule res.

Has anybody hunted the Lower Brule reservation? I know things are worked different in that area, just wondering if it worth a shot next yr.

Haven't hunted Lower Brule, but have hunted the Crow Creek Res at Ft. Thompson, SD several times. Pros: Lots of cover and good numbers of a variety of birds--shot roosters, prairie chickens and sharptail grouse. Various types of cover, from light grass to some cactus to heavy cattails. You really feel like you're in the West. Cons: game regs are set by the tribe, seem to change year to year and of course license fees get higher. Also, you must have a Native guide. Some of those are conscientious and some, not so much. The first year we hunted there the squalor and poverty on that reservation stunned us. They are living in Third World conditions; it's a sad commentary. They bitch the least of our so-called "minorities"and their conditions are among the worst.
One more story and I'll stop my "downer" rant: One late afternoon we were returning to FT. Thompson (Lodestar Casino/Hotel) and about 2 miles out of town, we passed a 2 story home in sad condition, obviously a tribe member's, but prominently displayed in the front yard, on a tall pole, was the American flag.....contrast that with some of the stuff going on in our major cities where conditions are infinitely better but they'd as soon burn the flag; it made me stop and think.
