I know this is a Pheasant forum and hope its not inappropriate to ask...rivaling Pheasants, Turkey Hunting is also a passion of mine. I'm starting to gather information for a Merriam's hunt in South Dakota. I have lodging in either Huron or Wessington Springs however we've never seen any birds while on our weeks out Pheasant hunting. By looking at the zones, I'm not even sure if these areas have permits available?? I'm interested in doing a hunt mostly on my own (not guided per say). Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Are landowners willing to give permission? Is there some good public ground? Do the birds get heavily pressured? Thing of that nature is what I'm looking to get some insight on. Thanks!!
