Looking for information

Howdy all,

I'm a "Newby" here on this site and felt I had to start somewhere. I am looking to plan a pheasant hunting trip to Kansas for the upcoming 2012 season.

To say that I know nothing about Kansas pheasant hunting would be an understatement!! Any suggestions that you may have would be appreciated. I grew up pheasant hunting but have been in Tennessee for the last 15 years. Ultimately, I would like to find a farmer/landowner who would be willing to let me hunt (for a fee) on good pheasant ground. It will probably be myself and two sons. I know that this is probably a pipe dream but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Any suggestions??

Brian

If you don't get any offers on private ground, you might try walk-in ("WIHA" in KDWPT lingo) ground. See the KDWPT website for details. Kansas Creek Gamebirds and Goddard Ranch, I believe, both offer a combination pen-raised and wild bird hunting if it is early season, otherwise pen-raised in reality.

Thanks for the info BritChaser. I have done some searching on the Web and see some of the "guided" hunts available. I am really not very interested in shooting pen raised birds. Although this may be an option if all else fails.

Is there any place to advertise locally or to check and see if private ground is available to hunt?

You might check the classifieds in this forum, down at the bottom of the main forum page. Put up an ad there about what you're looking for.

I see ads all the time on craigslist looking for exactly what you are describing. I'm sure some of them get responses. You might post an ad in the general area you are thinking about hunting and see.

I know of a family that keeps up the house on the old family farm (even though they no longer live there or farm it themselves) so they can rent it out to hunters. It's pretty good bird ground but they have the same groups come out every year and aren't taking any more hunters.

I'm sure there are plenty of others who do the same thing, and you would be unguided hunting wild birds. Good luck to you.

And X2 on what BritChaser said about the WIHA.
