Lodging near Mitchell

Headed that way again on Dec 15. Yes I know its late, but want to watch the daughters play basketball (one of my daughters is a senior) on the 15th against one of our big rivals. We have hunted west of Mitchell but east of river on our last trip, my question is are there any places for lodging from Mitchell to Chamberlain? Cant find any in internet searches. May just stay at Chamberlain and hunt both east and west of river. Looking forward to it. Will be hunting public with three guys and 3 or four dogs.

Mitchell or Chamberlain are your best bets for food and lodging, anything in between would not offer near as much.

Thanks for the info guys, looking forward to the trip. If we wanted to try to find sharpies or huns would we need to look farther north/west than Mitchell? Know it might be tough to kill some at that time, but might be worth a try. Thanks again. Chuck

No idea on Hungarians. For Sharptails and Chickens,(at least any huntable population) you would definitly need to go West/ northwest of Mitchell70 - 100 miles.

I stay at Lee 's Best Western when in Chamberlain area. They have some two bedroom units that are pretty nice. $69/night as I recall. Dogs ok. I have been letting the sharptails fly because I'm not terribly fond of eating them. But there's very good pops West River, from about Presho West.

Not sure about Sharptails, (but have 3 to try) but we have found the prairie chickens to be very good to eat.

If you like a darker, gamier meat, you will like them. I just figure no need because there is pheasants in the freezer. I do like grouse, goose etc. when smoke cooked. And goose jerky is simply excellent.

I stayed at the Days Inn which is just across the river from Chamberlain in Oacoma. I booked the room way ahead of time online and it was $54 a night. This was for the second week of Nov. Dogs are allowed. They also had a free continental breakfast but most of all it was clean and quiet.

Dew Drop Inn

I stayed at the Dew Drop Inn at Mitchel a few weeks ago. It's nothing fancy but they're dog friendly, good service and have an indoor cleaning station that is nice and handy when the weather is cold. It was about $68 for a single bed room (little high in my opinion but not horrible), not sure about the price of double rooms.
They're website is http://www.dewdropmotel.com/

As for food in Mitchel the Virginian had the best grub and decent prices for drinks too.

Thanks again for all your great help guys. Would like to try sharptails/chickens, we eat lots of duck, dove, deer and a few other odds and ends like snow goose, rabbit, squirrel and even a few frog legs, turtle, etc from time to time.

We may try to stay in Mitchell area for a couple of nights and then Chamberlain, think we stayed in Platte a couple of years ago, but would like to try it a little farther west just for the fun of it.
Will we find some sharpies/chickens on public? Also want to look at opportunities for a possible future deer hunt in the area, public of course.

Thanks again and if any of you need any info from AR let me know.
Chuck

lodging

Kimball has a super 8 and a locally owned motel called the dakota winds. White Lake has a motel that I think is called the A bar Z. Plankinton also has a motel but not sure what it is called (might be a super 8). I've never been to any of them so I can't speak as to cleanliness or amenities. personally I would stay in Mitchell just for a wider selection of services.

Trusty 20, I believe the businesses that you are talking about are in Miller, not Mitchell. I've always past on the Dewdrop because of the way it looks from the road. After reading your review, and driving past this morning and seeing a number of hunters staying there, I might have to give them a try.

Good catch feasantfever . I don't know why I mix those to names up. I hope you enjoy the Dew drop like I did. Rooms aren't modern but they are clean and cozy and there's usually quite a few good natured hunters to talk to. The rooms are also dog friendly, I can't remember if I mentioned that in the last post or not. And you make a great point about the services, between Alco and the grocery store you can probably take care of most any odds and ends you may need.
