What started out as a cluster F ended up as a good day out. Got up at about 5:30 and started my day. Loaded the truck, loaded the dog and headed to the coffee shop, which is about 20 min away on route to my hunting spot. Got my coffee and started my trek to look for some birds. Just as I was leaving the coffee place (Tim Hortons) I realized I had left my gun at home. So back I went to get it another 20 min back then back again to where I just came from. I get to my spot and nobody there, perfect place to myself. Start my day, seems like dog has some action but looses it. Then I look towards the parking lot and here comes the troops. 2 guys heading my way and cut infront of me as I'm trying to find this bird. Looked around for a while but no bird and 2 guys are not seeing any either so off I go to 2nd spot. I see two trucks parked I look into the area and just see a wall of orange. I'm not stopping here so off to 3rd spot. No cars perfect. Get out of truck start my walk down this trail. We got a bit of snow the day before and I see some tracks. Perfect get the dog over she picks up some sent but nothing. So I work this area for a few hours seeing tracks dog on a bird (hen) nice point flush and I nicked her, she glides down dog gets to her but shes gone running. Looked high and low and once I was about to give up dog locks on point and this time I smoked her. I was about to call it a day do to a birthday party but for some reason decided to circle on more area and bang dog on point, cock bird takes to flight and I smoked it. Then she gets on more scent. Thinking it the same bird I just got I call the dog over and she just takes off. Dogs doing figure 8's in this grassy area and I know its a different bird. An old rooster trying to give the dog the slip but she keeps up with him( She is a 12 year old Brit) finaly pinning the rooster down she goes on point, I wish I had a camera. Bird takes to flight letting out a good cackle I let it get out a bit then fire, feather cloud and dog brings it back. I think this was her best hunt this year. She never gave up and worked out scent direction perfect.
