Well, my baby girl & favorite gal, is not twelve weeks old anymore!

...along with her super active lifestyle, numerous injuries, have now ensured that she is already slowing down at 9 years old.

So...i wanna take her and her son on a Christmas longtails trek!

Of course, South Dakota is on everyone's bucket list, but half the people i have been talking with say someplace else! ...Nebraska, no Kansas, no you should go to North Dakota, etc...

Well, what says yous guys??

I am on a budget! I prefer a trespass type hunts, as my dogs do what they want, when they want! Lol! ;)

Someplace that as late in the season as Christmas, will let me hunt solo, or maybe another buddy tag along.

Of course state walk-in access is just fine with this uncultured wing shooter & pups!

Winter camping? ...cheap hotels that are pet friendly? Etc, etc...and all of the above.

Let er rip, i am open to all suggestions and shameless plugs!! ;)

HeavyC, a couple questions, to give us more guidance.
How long of a trip do you want? A week, a few days?
Where are you starting from? Northern Colorado includes Craig, Steamboat, Walden, Ft. Collins, Greeley, Sterling, among other towns.
What is a trespass hunt? Have not heard that one before.

But, you could easily go to Yuma, then hunt in different directions to get to WIA each day. Go west one day, north another, etc. Less gas than elsewhere, and in December, there are many fewer hunters out, until right at Christmas. Many families head back to the farm for the Christmas weekend, and lots of them are in the fields.

Thursday-Sun before Christmas

I live in Greeley, and we will be trying to wear out the Colorado WIA as much as possible until then ;)

Trespass hunts are when you pay a fee for daily access to private grounds.

SD is the obvious choice. Even in a ‘down year’ it’s usually so much better. The main issue for you with trespass fee operations there is they (generally) want a larger group. The flip side is that late in the season, knocking on doors still works pretty well with a solo/small group.

I’ve come across quite a few trespass/lodge-and-hunt operations in Western NE just searching for same. I can’t recall any names off top of my head, but google searches turned up quite a few.

If earlier, I’d have said Montana, but late December is rolling the dice up there.

I would follow SD reports the next month with a plan to see what general area is doing well and head up there. From Greeley, you’re driving through NE anyway, so could spend a few days in each.
