leash training

Just got a 4 month old pup and started training her. Put a leash on her and she just sets there when you try to take her outside for a walk or to use the bathroom. She comes to the here command most of the time. Question is how do i make her walk with me, do i tug the leash a couple of times or what? She's been with us for 2 days, thanks for any help.

You can put a check rope on the dog and throw some retrieves and just let him get used to having somthing new on, after a little while of walking around and having fun. you can take the rope and walk with the dog close, just choke up on it and let the rest drag behind. A little while out and having fun they won't mind. The first time is always something, not to worry he will get used to it quick once you put it on every time there is fun involved.

just read on another forum about a guy talking about getting a prong collar and making it fit snug beind the ears and then take off walking and dragging the pup, he says it will give in eventually , don't really know about that method sounds a little extreme, what do you all think?

I don't do that unless you find a very unruley dog. After trying it the positive way first. And you don't need it tight, just a slight jerk gets the point accross. They are not as bad as you think. They work well some cases for jumping up too. if you stand on the rope and hold the rope in your hand the same time, they will train them selves, they jump up they get a pinch.

okay thanks I will try the first method you suggested and if i have to i will use the other one as a last resort.

I would put a short lightweight leash and leave it on the pup any time its outside the kennel. Get it used to dragging something. Then pick it up and tug a few times. Shouldn't take much just patience.

thanks for the info, came home at lunch and let her out of the kennel with a leash on and let her run around for alittle while with it on and this evening we are doing the same thing she seems to be doing better less and less resistance, thanks for the help.
