So yesterday I was driving down our dirt road and ran across a hen quail that was in the road. I pulled up to her and she just ran around in circles but would not fly. After a couple minutes she finally ran to the side and as soon as she did we saw several babies in the ditch. These things were literally no bigger than a chicken egg. They couldn’t have been more than a couple days old. Is anyone else seeing any new broods of quail or pheasant? I’ve always heard how adaptable quail are and that they can have multiple batches, and that pheasants aren’t as hardy or determined to renest or have a second Brood of chicks. If this is not an isolated thing it would be awesome to see this fall. Interested to hear peoples thoughts and perspectives on this. I was sure shocked to see it myself. I live just north of Topeka to give you an idea of the region.

Ranch I hunt on down here in Oklahoma saw tiny chicks around the first of sept.

Yes we are seeing baby quail chicks as we pick corn, and they are seeing baby pheasants that don't have color out west. I have seen more quail here in Anderson County than I have in a long time.

Happens every year. Nothing new. Seems like every year I get into a covey where the birds are small and don't fly well. Been that way since I started hunting in the 70's.
