Ladies man

Went out for the day about an hour north of the cities. Did not see a single rooster. Couple hens from the car, but not flushes in any property we walked. A little discouraging, but it was only the first weekend and a vast majority of the corn is still up.

Well, my opening day was a bust... Flushed about 20 hens at close range, but didn't even see a dat-gum rooster.

Anyone else fair better?

How is that possible. Little bit heard was west of river very good. Remainder of state until corn harvested not much of a chance.

And will be for awhile. Could not believe how much corn up there is still fully green.

Growing up in the corn belt of ND we never had a problem shooting pheasants the first 10 days of the season.

I hunted the southwest corner on private land. Lots of pheasants, but they seemed pretty nervous. Some of the guys thought it was more like mid season than opening weekend.

The wind on Sunday and Monday was awesome. 30 gusting to 50. It finally calmed down Monday afternoon late. Tuesday was really nice.

Not as much corn around as last year. More sunflowers. They were quite varied in maturity. Some were black and being harvested and other fields just across the road were very green. Once the birds got into the sunflowers they didn't come back out until dark.
