Kubota RTV900

Wifes been bugging me for a side by side (she says Ranger) for the acreage. (She thinks we can just go out and find one cheap for $600).

Ive been offered a 2011, RTV900 diesel with 139 hours on it. It looks in perfect condition,(been trying it out for a week and a half) comes with hydraulic dump box, winch, two hitch inserts. No radio, windshield.

Hes asking $8200 for it, and from all of my looking, this seems like a great price..

Your thoughts?

Nice Rig

Nice rig and the price seems decent. I am a volunteer fireman and we have one of these in our Dept. that we use for many various uses.

Kubota

We have them at work. I am employed at a Taconite Ship Loading / Ore handling Facility on the N. Shore in MN. There are about a dozen of them on the property. The Taconite facility is a very hostile environment for equipment.
Wet, cold, condensation, extremely abrasive dust / mud, many potholes & rail crossings.
The Kubotas are a quality machine. We go thru mainly starters & alternators on them. The Diesel engines occasionally require service. The conditions could be rated extreme / bad. Units idle for hours at a time (whole shifts). Used in all types of weather including minus 30 - 40* F.

Observations;
*overall reliability is excellent.
* stiff but long lasting suspension
* cabs are pretty tight
* reliable & versatile 4WD system
* Hydro drive is solid.

Cab heater is OK 45*F & above. It is weak in cold wx. & will not warm further unless unit is driven steady. This is my one real "bitch" about them. As it's a diesel the heater sucks the block temp right down in cold wx. unless the unit is driven hard. Idling, it heats cab mostly not worth a damn below freezing.
You need to dress warm.
Mechanically, if it's been maintained by current / original owner you will probably never wear it out for personal use. The boxes will rust out if exposed to salt unless rinsed out well.
It's not a trail machine. It will flat beat the hell out of you unless the "trail" is like a road. It is an industrial duty UTV. The locking differential
& 4WD are very nice as is the "all speed" drive.

Btw

We have had Rangers on the property also.
They are a fine machine & ride much better. We had three of them.
One made it two years, the other two were shot, (engines) & suspension after one year.

Have one at the farm. Great machines but do not plan on driving 40 mph down the road.

Kubota

I'd go for it we have a Kubota 1100 and ts perfect for anything and super reliable. Also they hydraulics are great for many uses.

I love my Ranger 500 for what I do with it, but if I was going to really work/abuse a SxS, I would get a Kubota. The ride of the ranger 500 is like butter, but it doesn't feel solid like the Kubota.

We tested the RTV 900 for work, and it was a beast. Unfortunately, it didn't have fwd/reverse hydrostat on the floor like a tractor, so we ended up getting a tractor instead of the RTV. For snow removal here, it made sense to get something more manuverable than the RTV, but I thought it was a fantastic machine, and I wished it worked better for our application. I just felt like the shifting forward/reverse on the dash was cumbersome for a machine that would be going forward and back constantly, and the turning radius was not as good as the machine we ended up buying...

I think you'll really enjoy the RTV. I would snap one up in a second if I was buying for farm or landscape contractor use.

Thanks guys.

I knew it wouldnt go 40... or even 30 and Im alright with that. It went fast enough to drive it to the gas station half a mile away though.

I do agree, the shifting is cumbersome at the dash, and a hydrostatic forward/reverse would be a nice option..

We committed to buying it. Happy wife, happy life..
