Kansas or West Texas?

I just found and joined this forum, it's great! I am from the Dallas, Tx area and for the past few years have been going to west Texas (San Angelo area)to hunt Bob's, and Blue's. The hunting in the last couple of years has been tough, so I started looking for public hunting areas in OK, and KS. It sounds like Kansas is the place to be. After reading about the birds and friendly people, I feel like moving there. Just wanted to know how the pheasant/quail hunting is compared to west Texas hunting. Has anyone hunted both states recently?

When west Texas quail hunting was at it's peak (a few yrs ago before the drought) I don't think anywhere in America could touch it. You could move 20 coveys without much trouble. The drought changed that and I hope it will someday come back. Bob white seemed to be more effected that the blues. West Texas pheasant hunting can not touch Kansas. Quail can be a nice bonus and available on the same site. I am not aware of any public land in Texas that contains a huntable number of pheasants but there may be some. Most of the land I have hunted in Texas for pheasants was all pay to hunt. In Kansas the walk in areas can be productive and some farmers will let you hunt if you ask. If you live in Dallas the drive to Kansas is not that much farther (or less) than some areas in Texas. Personally, I have forsaken Texas until the quail really make a come back and do my serious hunting in Kansas.
