Hello gang and Happy New Year to all!
Departed KY on Sunday Dec 13 and arrived in Central KS around 2pm Monday...temp was about 7 degrees above w/ 15 to 20mph winds and 4-6" of snow from previous storm.
Usually we stay on our friends ranch near Smith Center....however they were snowed in w/ about 16"....
So our group of 3 hunters and 8 setters moved south towards Great Bend.
We hunted private land that I secured prior to trip via phone.
Hunting ground consisted of sand hill plums pasture, CRP, shelterbelts and crop stubble.
Hunted the area until Friday and then moved toward Ellsworth.
We moved about 30 coveys total...(for the trip)
Friday and Saturday were the best days as we had 8 covey points each day.
Saw good numbers of pheasant...usually bunched up near heavy cover / feed.
Enjoyed the trip...the locals were warm and friendly.
