Kansas birds

I realize that there is a special Kansas forum, I was unable to post in it for some odd reason:mad:. Anyway, I am going to be down around between Smith Center and Phillipsburg with a friend (a Kansas Native) in January. I am hunting on private land of a relative of mine. How have the numbers been in that area??? Here in Iowa, they are pretty much a shadow of our glory days. I haven't gone out here in Iowa in years as a result. Hoping the late season birds will be worth giving up a weekend off ice fishing for, lol:)

The "macro" view is that it's really bad.

There are some honey holes out there. Hopefully you find some! So far for me this year, the birds have not been evenly distributed across the landscape. Instead, there are vast areas of absolutely nothing, and then you will hunt a section that has quite a few birds for whatever reason.

I have not been able to decipher what is different about the honey holes, versus the other really good looking cover in other fields that holds nothing. But the birds seem to know what they want...
