Just Had To Pick THAT Day To End The Season!

As normal, I always try and get out to the preserve one last time before the long hot summer hits. In years past though, at the end of March, I have been struggling to carry enough water to keep the dogs cool!

This year, I picked this last Saturday to head out to Auer Bird Valley in Keensburg to squeeze in one last hurrah before the pups are shut down till Sept....yeah, good one

We stuck with the plan, and Steve even called Friday night to confirm we were idiotic enough to still come out and fight the elements.

When waking up in Greeley proved I had only had a couple of inches of snow I felt much better. Even despite the howling wind blowing sideways snow up and into every crevice on this round body of mine!

Well, Steve and his kids braved the white-out conditions and worked their butts off to get us birds ready by just a bit after 8am.

However, before 9am they were mostly drifted over and were not going anywhere! I am positive they would have preferred suffocation to sticking their heads out of the drifts!

We toughed it out for a couple of hours, and found about half of the planted birds, nailing the majority of those despite the gail force winds they were getting up into as soon as the flushed.

The pups sure were excited to be hunting for phezzies, they too toughed it out and were still mad about leaving even though they were frozen balls of puppy fur by the time we packed it up for good.

Sorry, no pictures taken out there, as all they would have been were pics of blurry white sideways snow!

Got back to Greeley to only about 6inches or so, which was about half the snow that was on the ground by mid morinng in the Keensburg area!

Thanks Brian, Bryan & Jason for the company!...misery always does like company, right?!?!

Again, can't thank Steve and family enough for the hard work and great flying birds! ...and also cannot suggest his operation highly enough to do them justice! THANKS!

Kept one for each of them!

Well what a difference 5 days makes!! :bangin:

Where lucky enough to be offered by Steve to come back out and scratch out any remaining birds that we could find before the preserve season ends this weekend, and with the wonderful weather since Sat, how could we resist!!!

Managed to scrounge up a couple of more birds. Though more importantly, the pups got some much needed excercise! ...OK, me too!

A tired lab is always a good lab!

Nice pics!

ABV is a great place, although I haven't been there in a couple of years.

Also - what a contrast between Thursday and Saturday!
