THIS EMAIL CAME TO ME FROM BARTH CROUCH, REGIONAL WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST WITH PHEASANTS FOREVER------
"Folks,
It has come to my attention that the survey done by KDWP to see how the Upland Bird Season Dates has been received by landowners, hunters and KS business has been compiled. However it will not be brought up at the January 10th Wildlife Commission Meeting in Independence without all of you and your acquaintances contacting the Wildlife Commissioners (their email addresses are on the KDWP website) and asking to have those results published and discussed at the Commission Meeting. It is not currently on the Meeting Agenda and so the chance of returning to the dates we had for 40+ years will go away without discussion unless you act now! If you are happy with the change, please call them and tell them that as well!

MAYBE I AM JUST OLD AND RESISTANT TO CHANGE, OR MAYBE I AM A TRADITIONALIST, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO GO BACK TO THE TRADITIONAL SEASON, WITH THE PHEASANT OPENER ON THE SECOND SATURDAY IN NOVEMBER. I LIKED THAT OPENER FOR A COUPLE REASONS: 1) SOME HAVE VETERANS DAY OFF AND IT MADE FOR A THREE DAY HUNTING WEEKEND; 2)IT GIVES MORE TIME FOR FARMERS TO GET THEIR MILO CUT.
QUAIL USED TO OPEN WITH PHEASANT IN THE EASTERN 2/3 OF THE STATE AND A WEEK LATER IN THE WEST. WE ARE ON THE LINE AROUND DODGE AND WE MANY TIMES WOULD HUNT ON BOTH SIDES THE LINE ON THE OPENER. THE OLD WAY WAS FINE WITH ME, BUT I WOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH QUAIL OPENING A WEEK AFTER PHEASANT STATEWIDE. THE QUAIL SEASON IS NOW SHORTENED TO JANUARY 20TH RATHER THAN JANUARY 31ST. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE BOTH PHEASANT AND QUAIL TO END JANUARY 31ST.
ON THE MIGRATORY SIDE, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE DOVE GO BACK THE THE CONTINUOUS SIXTY DAYS, SEPTEMBER 1ST THROUGH OCTOBER 30TH RATHER THAN THE SPLIT SEASON AS IT IS NOW.
THOSE ARE THE THOUGHTS THAT I WILL BE SENDING TO THE COMMISSION. I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO EMAIL COMMENTS TO THEM, IF YOU FEEL SO MOVED.
