Hunting suggestions

I would like to visit Kansas again this fall. I was out around the Stockton area several years ago and it was tough going. I would like to get back out to Kansas to hunt for quail and pheasant. Given a choice, I would probably lean towards good quail numbers more that pheasant but I also enjoy the occasional pheasant.

I am not looking for anybodies honey hole. I realize how precious those are but I was interested in some general areas that I may want to look at for decent public land and places to stay. any insight is appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Thanks ahead of time and happy hunting this fall:cheers:

A lot of the state parks have cabins now. They're nothing fancy, but it's nice to have a little space to sit and BS at the end of the day.

In and around the edge of the flint hills for quail , there will be a few pheasants on the edge of the Flinthills in the northern and central areas .

We have got Into some real nice pasture coveys In this area , it's big and is the Largest remnant of tall grass prararie in the world . The area is big , look for The wildlife and parks report in September it has been a good guide in reference numbers and how well different species faired in different areas .

Plan on staining more than a few days and having a plan a , b and c . You will eventually catch up to them .

the quail range and density has expanded, you could bump 3-5 coveys per day in almost any area of Kansas except the SE corner, IMO.

Funny how things change over time, and sometime a short amount of time. SEK was the mecca for quail in Kansas when I was a kid and even up till about 1986. Some days we would move 15-20 coveys per day. And try to take about 2 birds per covey.
