Hunting around Havre

I have a friend that moved to the Havre area and I am wondering if there is good bird hunting nearby. In particular I am interested in Sharptails and Huns in that area.

Is it a good area to go for birds? Would there be walk in areas or other public spots to hunt? I have hunted Plentywood in the past, but that is a long ways from home in Idaho and would really like an area in Mt closer to home.

Thanks in advance.

there will be more replys that have more knowledge than I , I like you go east in Montana.
however, there is from what little I know, good habitats, and depending on spring nesting ,you will find sharpies, huns, pheasants, and pockets of sage grouse I would expect.

there are block management access ( access financed by hunters dollars ) to allow access on private lands. I would also guess, getting access isn't terrible for sharpies, and huns, pheasants might be harder. off the top of my head, I would expect public walk in areas fairly uncommon there...

Welcome to the forum, lots of good into here!

Blain and Hill Counties are traditionally among the top as far as pheasant hunting. Milk River Valley and the tributaries are pheasnt country. Huns and Sharptails where the grasslands are mixed with grain and in the grasslands. Sage Hills South toward the Missouri River there are Sage Grouse.
Where ever there is thick and heavy areas of sage there is Sage Grouse.
