Well I went out by the Hugo area east of Colorado Springs. Got there about an hour before shooing time. There were already a line of trucks park in the parking area
I saw that all the "good areas" were taken up (the ones I had scouted). It looks like some guys may have "camped out" at the SWA which I had thought was illegal based on what I read in the regulations.
Anyhow, I noticed that whomever does the land management for that SWA was mowing and bailing hay. So I got my stuff and my dog and we headed over to some hay bails that were setup in between two large groves of cottonwoods. There were also sunflowers to my north and water was to my west.
So I decided to hunt like I hunted doves growing up in Texas. We always hunted by hay bails in the middle of sunflower fields that were mowed into strips. So I sat on the shaded side in my chair with my dog and I shot 7 dove.
I won't lie, it sounded like WWIII over near the trees and I could hear guys yell back and forth "here comes one, look behind you, over your head, etc"
So my .02cts is that I need to find another spot for opening day or just wait and go the day after or so (before the weather cools)
Good thing was my chocolate lab Roxie enjoyed it and she did well. I may have lost only one bird that I know of and I missed a few but not to many. It was better than even a good day at work :10sign::cheers:
