Can anyone tell me the status of the crops around Milford, and Marysville. Also if anyone has any bird reports about those area, it would be a big help. Happy hunting to everyone.
We hunted around Marysville opening weekend and there werent all that many crops left in the field. I would be surprised if there was much to speak of left. We hunted private ground and saw quite a few roosters and about 5 coveys of quail each with close to 20 birds in them.
Thanks for that info NElabaholic, I am scratching at the walls just to get out in those fields. I move from Ft. Riley this summer to Louisiana, and it is just killing me that I cant bird hunt like I use to. Well thanks again, and good luck to you.
Rooster, Where in La. are you living? I, too have hunted the promised lands of Kansas. Until I can get back, I fill my time chasing woodcock. There is a pretty good population of timberdoodles down here if we get some cold weather. I know its not a rooster , but what else are you going to do. Then again, Kansas doesn't have redfish and speckeled trout.
I am stationed at Ft. Polk. And you are right about the fishing. Where are you in LA? I have never hunted woodcock but I am always up for anything. As long as the wife lets me go play. If you have the time I would like to know the 5 w's on hunting woodcocks. Hope to talk to you again, and have a good one.
I am in Slidell, about 30 miles north of New Orleans. The closest place I hunt woodcock is in the Atchafalaya Basin near the town of Krotz Springs. They inhabit places a rabbit won't go in the bottomland swamps. They like wet briar patches. Its best to have a pointing dog or you won't likely find any. We've got that taken care of. Our season is from DEc. 18 - jan. 31. We usually wait till the end of the season to hunt Krotz Springs. Would be honored to treat a military man to a hunt. I'll keep your name and pm you when we go.
I know just where you are. My mother is from New Orleans, and I think that I might have family over there by you. Also I would love to go hunting sometime. The only problem I would have is that I work 6 days a week and I dont get to see my family really much. But if the wife aka (The War Department) says I can play then I will be there with bells on.
