How about Quail?

My cousin said he has seen a bunch of small coveys of quail, more than he has seen in years, but all 6 bird or so coveys. When I was up there for opening of dove, driving down the roads we kicked up 5 or 6 coveys in the couple of days of dove hunting. He said the ones he has seen have been in different places than before, maybe the quail had a good hatch? Anyone else noticing more quail?

Hard to really tell yet for me anyway. I've not seen any driving the back roads. But, I haven't been driving the back roads a whole bunch yet either. I know around my place I have one pretty good sized covey most years. Yet to find them this year though.

Everyone is reporting good numbers of quail in OK this year though.

I agree that it's a bit early to tell. However, they seem to have done 'better' these past couple years in places. I certainly wouldn't say I've heard more whistling this year than last, at least not where I live (Wab county).

I doubt many folks are going to find 10 coveys in a day this season, but yes, there will be days when a guy could run across 3 or 4 in a good day's hunt.

keep your shirt on guys, the state will have a quail forecast out at about the same time they publish the pheasant phorcast, that will be the same time they figure out what color to make it. then we can take all that info, meet in the same field and get limits

cheers
