Hillendale Hunting Club

TAC in CT

I forget which member of this forum directed me to Hillendale Hunting Club in Tyrone, PA, but it was a great tip. I went there with my brother and my Toller last Monday and had a great morning of hunting. We had the whole farm to ourselves for several hours. The pheasants were a mix of recently released birds and those that had been living wild for a while. Not the match of a South Dakota experience I know, but as close as we were going to get in the Northeast. The birds were running and flying fast -- I'd post my brother down field and drive birds toward him with the dog. He knocked down three of the many birds my Toller Bridie flushed, so he was delighted. Bridie behaved really well and so I had a great day, too. No need to say how the dog felt about this -- she ran until she could hardly walk. The owner of the farm, Tom, was really friendly and worked hard to make sure we had a good time.
Thank you to whoever made the recommendation.

Did you stay there overnight? I am thinking of going there and was wondering if there are any motels and restaurants close by.

There isn't anything right in Tyrone (the town in which Hillendale is located). My brother and I stayed in State College (hometown of Penn State) which is about 30 miles away. There were lots of places to stay there and several allowed dogs.

TAC. It may have been me. I hunt Hillendale every year with a group of 8-10 guys. Tom is great, and he has a really nice operation. Not sure about other aces to stay, but they have a farm house right on the property that is really nice. Plus you can drink beer on the back patio at night and watch the pheasants out feeding in the fields. Hillendale is the closest thing to wild pheasant hunting I have ever seen.

What Springerjohn said. There is nothing really close except the farm house which is really nice. The farm really is out by itself. It feels like real pheasant hunting.
