OK I have a 5 year old Choc. lab she is an excelent dog. I am a whitetail huntin fanatic so she doesn't get to go as often as I would like. The last couple years I wasn't able to tag out and did not pheasant hunt at all, but this year was a diff. stary as I was done mid Oct. Now she has developed some bad habbits (all my fault for not gettting her out as often as I should) that I can' seem to break.

1. She tends to get to far ahead and won't come to calling
2. She won't bring my birds all the way back to me

I was thinking of getting a ecollar for the getting ahead part but the only partial retreiving part has me stumped

Good doggy snacks on the bring it back to you worked for me. He brings two ducks back at a time for more treats now:D Do it everyday make it a fun game. Good luck.

Well it is tough, unless as said you devote your time to a dog. If you put nothing in you will get nothing out in return. Reap what U sow so to speak. The not coming takes obedience training in a controlled environment and rolling in lots of birds training. All aspects of a good hunting dog involve training. A e collar is not a fix all tool. It is an extension of the trainer and is not intended to be just a zapper every time the dog pisses you off. That can result in a dog not willing to do any thing. I suggest get a trainer or come and train at one of the clubs. Beauty of club training is you do it in the off season for deer too. So the dog is brushed up and basically ready to go when bird hunting comes. You also have to maintain some integrity of your work with the dog.
