If I stick to a 16 gauge this season, as I typically do.
And if I shoot only 1 rooster per shell.
And if I party hunt...a lot!
I can shoot 704 roosters this season! 😃

Do you see a big difference in the BOSS 4 vs 5 shot?

Do you see a big difference in the BOSS 4 vs 5 shot?
On shots over 40 yds, yes. The 4's penetrate well. The 5's don't. Not talking about straight away shots, mind you. Anything over 35-40 straight away is going to be almost impossible regardless. Also, the copper plated BOSS shot fragments considerably less on impact than non-plated Kent. I can make a case either way for that, so I don't really care. But it's readily apparent.

I found the 12ga #5 nice for mallards. I even dropped a Canada goose with it. I’m anxious to try them in my 16 On pheasant.

Went into Fleet Farm in Oakdale, MN this weekend just to start scouting for my favorite ammo and it reminded me of this thread. Years past I've had to hit everyone of the FF stores and both Cabelas in the twin cities to get what I wanted and it got to the point I thought it smart to pick up a case at a time and hoard some shells like some of the more vigorous collectors in this thread. But at this first stop I found copious amounts of #4 and #5 like the good old days. I still picked up 6 boxes to add to the collection since I am shopping for 3 guns. But I'll be paying attention to what the local shops in SD have while we are out there this season. Years past we would bring a box or two each and run into town if we were out but lately that's been a fools errand. Now, maybe we are getting back to some regular supply chains for shells. They must be doing something right with manufacturing since we just passed the 48th month of 1 million background checks, mostly pistol and rifle so that market for ammo is not slowing down but yet they seem to be keeping up with shot shells now.
