HELP! LOST DOG- German Shorthair Pointer

Please help. My dad and our dog were out hunting this morning (outside of Dodge City- Garden City?) and our dog ranged out too far and has been missing ever since. My dad is missing her terribly and is very worried. He didn't want to call home to tell us that she is missing, but I figured this is the least I can do. I'm sure you can all imagine how you'd feel to lose your hunting partner. Please, please, if you have any information call or email me. Lost Dog German Shorthair Pointer

I wish I could be more helpful. I'm home in Missouri. All I know is that they were hunting between Garden City and Dodge City. Tall CRP. They kept walking the field but had no luck. They drove the perimeter over and over but with the tall grass they couldn't see much. I guess they looked for over 8 hours today and left their phone numbers with a few folks. They said there aren't many houses in the area, but they heard quite a few shots so I guess there were a few hunters out. They're going to stay again overnight tonight and I pray to God they find her so my dad doesn't have to leave Kansas without her. Thanks for the help and the link.
 
Lauren, I sure hope your dad finds Heidi. The only suggestion I can offer is to be sure your dad has left an article of his clothing in the area where Heidi was last seen. Although I haven't had to put this to the test myself, it's said that lost dogs will often return to the place they last had contact with their master and if they find something with their master's scent, they'll stay with it.

I wish your dad luck and I hope everything turns out OK.

Still looking...

I guess it stayed pretty warm last night, so I'm thankful for that. The worst part is not knowing if she's hurt somewhere, if she was picked up by someone, or if she just kept on hunting and couldn't get back. That's the part that's going to kill my dad if he has to come home without her, feeling like he gave up on her.

He did leave his jacket in the field for her, because he heard stories about the lost dogs coming back and laying on the jacket... but they're still out looking. She's been without water for a long time now. They said there's a little snow around the edges, but no water readily available. Poor girl.

Any news?

It was a nasty day---the temps were around 70, but the wind was horrible. My eyes, nose and ears are full of dirt. Is your dad spending another night?

No news... still looking...

Still no sign. They'll stay again tonight and keep looking for her again tomorrow. I can't believe after years and years of hunting together she would range out and just not come back... that doesn't seem like her. It makes me think that she's hurt somewhere. Even if she isn't hurt and just continued to hunt, she's probably pretty tired and sore by now and may be laying down somewhere. A group of hunters reserved the field through Thursday (when season closes?) they're going to try to get in touch with them and leave phone numbers in case they see her.
