Hi everybody. Mark here from Lawrence, Kansas. I hunt mostly in Kansas, pheasant and quail starting in November out in the northwest and north central parts of the state, often ending the season with a reserve hunt in March with Kansas Creek Gamebirds. I hunt with one Brittany, my house pet, Gus, whom I got last year from National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network (NBRAN). Before Gus I had Sport, a Brittany from Colorado where I used to live and hunt grouse in the mountains. I usually start the pheasant season in October in Nebraska or the Dakotas. When I lived in Colorado I hunted the Nevada chukar opener out of Elko, but Elko is now a two-day drive away. I miss hunting that weekend with my buddy from way back in '68. I also hunt spring and fall turkey and dove hunt.
For me, hunting is a true connection with nature. It takes me far from the stresses of everyday urban life to places filled with natural beauty, adventure, physical and mental challenges, and camaraderie, and then I share the good meat with friends back home. I also enjoy the bourbon in the field after the guns are put away for the day.
