Hello from Washington State. New to forum and starting to do more upland and waterfowl hunting. I have been into deer and elk hunting for a long time. Looking forward to learning and communicating on the forum.

Welcome! Depending on where you settled, waterfowl hunting can be excellent. Pheasant hunting on the other hand gets worse every year.

Thanks for the welcome. I live in the Tri-Cities area. You are correct more waterfowl hunting opportunities then upland. In my earlier years there seemed to be more upland in the area. You can find some quail in the Russian Olive trees along the Columbia River. The state buys some pheasants from the prison for release but a lot don't survive.

I am also in the Tri Cities - 32 years worth. Hunting was very good back in the 80's, but has deteriorated more & more every year of late. I refuse to hunt release sites anymore - the last time I happened to hunt one up on the Snake, I was finishing my hunt & "the truck" pulled-in followed by a parade of so-called hunters. Seems that someone leaks the release info to friends/relatives & most of the birds are taken before they even get a chance to spread-out & acclimate. That seems to be a common occurrence around here at release sites & I prefer that my pup & I hunt, not shoot.

It is that way when they stock fish too! Basically catching them soon as they are released from the truck. When out one time hunting and pheasant wouldn't flush at Dolton Lake there of the Snake river. To me it is unsportsmanlike . might as will harvest them in a pen or dip net out of a fish tank.

I'll likely hunt Montana & Oregon next year if my pre-season scouting around here doesn't show promise. Now that I'm retired 2 years, I have a lot more time as the post-retirement projects have been completed at last. We logged a lot of miles this last season for the paltry numbers of wild birds found. My joy is in watching my dog work, but I still like to see him find a few occasionally, lol. Oh well, fishing is right around the corner . . .
