Bruce & Theresa here. We've just moved to NW North Dakota- from FLORIDA!! Have been hunting the Bowman area for several years. This Crosby area 200 miles north looks promising as well.

Welcome to UPH, Could tell us about your dog and favorite gun. We are just trying to get to know you better. Hope we see a lot of you around here. Tell me are you as fast with your shotgun and the original Doc was with his handgun? My son is he breaks those clays before they hardly clear the the trap house........Bo

Welcome. That is quite a move. Hope it is everything you had hoped it would be.

WOW! I am going to write a novel about those two very things, my dog and my LEAST favorite shotgun! We will be able to keep this thread going for years. Fast, no, I am mediocre at best, that's why I hunt Pheasant, need that large target that flies up at my feet (Quail are good too, if they are thick and I have an Improved Cylinder screwed in). Doc Holiday is that dog you asked about. He was named in my excitement of purchasing my first "professionally trained" dog. Back to that novel....back in 06.............had I known then what I "should have known then", I would have named him "Hard-Headed Couch-Potato" with a few expletives that would have taken too much explaining to the AKC. I made the mistake of letting my wife purchase the dog while I was in North Dakota and she was in Florida. After an intense search of the internet for our "perfect" $800 dog, a $275 plain ticket for said "perfect" dog and just over $500 for a new kennel (which he spent one night in), we had our champion. I am told that when he arrived he would; sit, shake hands, (listen in general), point, hold, retrieve and so forth. Nine months later, when I worked my way back home, he would; most definitely lay down, (and without even being told), had the cast and characters of "Days of Our Lives" memorized, and showed a touch of aggression when I tried to reclaim my side of the bed. What I ended up with.................is my best friend ever. We have had some of the most memorable moments of our lives in the field together. Will share some of those next time if anyone is interested.............................................Bruce

Matt, you are right this is quite an experience, this is the first time I have spent the entire winter up here, usually just up in Bowman Oct. and Nov. Wife insisted we keep the place in Florida! This is her first time North of Tennessee in the winter. I didn't think it was possible to be any colder than down there in Bowman ND, I was wrong, this is the coldest place I have ever been. We have hit -50 twice (with the wind chill). Most of the birds seem to be surviving it from what I am seeing so far though.

welcome to the board, winter in NW No Dak is something you can tell grand kids about!
Are you in the oil industry? I know that world is booming, we have a lot of construction workers that have moved from western Montana to work in the housing boom in Williston area.

GREAT People in North Dakota, and a quality of life too, if you dont freeze !

Absolutely! I am actually working just NE of Williston, Inspecting all this Oil Field construction going on. Was a little disappointed at first about the housing situation, but man everything has worked out perfect so far. This place is incredible, saw my first moose in the wild (another story). The folks up here are great. I have a 5 year contract and there is no way I could hunt all the places that folks have given me permission to hunt in 5 years. Biggest problem I have is driving in this mess. I got caught in a ground blizzard Dec. 20th and was truly scared, I couldn't see the hood of my truck, was driving in brail.
