Heading to SW Kansas

Hi all;

A buddy of mine and I are heading east out of the San Luis Valley in order to hunt SW Kansas for the pheasant / quail opener. I haven’t been back to the area since '05 (been spending my road trip funds the last 4 years in South Dakota) and would like to get back to the 4-5 hour verse 13 straight hour drive. Anyone heading down that way that would like to join forces with two hunters and an older, but still raring to go, Labrador? Might have some private land to hunt lined up but more likely will be hunting public parcels and knocking on doors.

I will be out there!! Where are you headed? I will be in Lane and Gove counties!!

SW Kansas

Usually hunt Kearny/ Finney/ Grant/ Haskell.... but willing to head anywhere where the reports are good.... Been knocking ducks down quite regularly for the past 5 weeks and ready to get off my butt, out of a blind and hunt some roosters up! Dogs in shape and raring to go!

I can remenber when the valley held lotsa' birds around Alamosa. Am I dateing myself? :p
good luck in KS!

Yea you're showing yer age :), we haven't had pheasamts in the Valley for over a decade, good duck numbers though and did very well during elk seaon 10 miles from my home. miss the pheasants

I never hunted them there, but have memories of seeing many in the 70's while we were buyin' pickup loads of 'taters. I still see 'taters when I pass through..:p
Have done a fair amount of big game hunting around Saguache (spelling?)
and Koetchetope (sp?)
